The List

| | Comments (0)

A few times in the last couple of weeks, I have mentioned some members of my fanboy list. So, in order to avoid any curiosity on your part, I've decided provide you with it. Some of my choices are a bit bizarre, but so am I. The list has grown over the years with very few people being removed, so in order to make it easier for you, I've divided the members into categories. Yes, it's that long. I may have even missed a few people. Anyway, without further adieu, in no particular order, here we go.

What it means to be Alive

| | Comments (3)

If you were to ask someone who loves music to explain why they like certain types of music or certain bands over others you would inevitably get an answer that sounded confident and secure but most likely didn't really answer your question. They may cite, for example, that they prefer one singers voice over another or that they prefer the sound of guitar driven American Rock over Death Metal. Or that Jazz is what gets their foot tapping. But an answer in that vein really hasn't answered anything.

But before we get to anything further I should clarify as to who it is exactly I'm talking about when I say 'someone who loves music'. Most, if not all people, if questioned, will answer that they indeed do enjoy music of some variety. But I'm not talking about the general public. I'm talking about those who need music in their lives. Those who listen to music while driving to work in lieu of listening to those ridiculous morning talk radio shows. Those who can't walk to the corner market, local pharmacy, or even the neighborhood watering hole to meet with friends, without popping in their ear buds first. Essentially those who have taken the iPod revolution to its natural progression and carry tunes with them wherever they go.

Numerology

eightAnd we're off!

At 8:08 pm tonight, the torch will be lit at the opening ceremonies and the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics will begin. For some reason, soccer started on Wednesday and Archery got going this morning, but I digress.

So, um, what's with all the 8's? Apparently, the Chinese associate numbers with words that sound similar to them, and are categorized auspicious (吉利) or inauspicious (不利) based on that Chinese word. The word for the number eight (八) sounds similar to Chinese word which means "prosper" or "wealth." Numbers also have elements in Chinese Numerology. The number 8 has the Earth element which gives stability and enhances the determination to reach goals.

No offense to the Chinese, but that sounds as about auspicious as Communism.
