While I've always been a fan of Elvis Costello, he has just officially joined Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder on my list of musical heroes. Elvis announced on Thursday that his upcoming release, Momofuku, will only be released in vinyl/digital format. While bands such as Vampire Weekend, Modest Mouse, Delta Spirit and Wilco offer mp3 downloads with the purchase of their vinyl releases, Elvis is first artist that I know of that is doing this without releasing his album on CD as well. Thank you, Elvis, for making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. jmj

Sports Illustrated discusses the great draft class of 2005, and even dares to say that this class will eclipse the draft class of 1985, which many consider to be the best MLB draft ever. In 1985, Barry Bonds, Barry Larkin, Rafael Palmeiro, Will Clark, B.J. Surhoff, Pete Incaviglia, and Gregg Jefferies were among the top 22 picks. jmj ... Don't forget Walt Weiss. Also Randy Johnson in Round 2, Bobby Thigpen and David Justice in Round 4, Deion Sanders in Round 6, and 'roiders Jason Grimsley and Brady Anderson in Round 10. Second best was the class of 1993: Alex Rodriguez, Billy Wagner, Chris Carpenter, Derek Lee, Jason Varitek, Torii Hunter, Trot Nixon, and Scott Rolen in Round 2. Third best is the class of 1977: Harold Baines, Paul Molitor, Wally Backman, Dave Henderson, Kevin Bass and Mookie Wilson in Round 2, Ozzie Smith in Round 3, and Tim Raines in Round 5. tjc

Seed Magazine: What happens if China and India ally on the sci/tech scene: tjc
The implications of pooling the two countries' strengths—drawing on what Wen terms the "two pagodas" of China's hardware and India's software—could be profound. China and India are the two most populous nations on earth, together comprising 38 percent of the world's population. They're teaming up in areas in which they have been historically strong to bolster already impressive industrial and economic growth.
