Becky Hammon, originally from Rapid City, SD, was the WNBA MVP runner-up last year. She says that she has long been overlooked by the USA Basketball National Team and will in fact not be on the team for the upcoming Olympics. She will however be competing at the Olympics as a basketball player, only she will be wearing the Russian National Team uniform. Incidentally the Russian National Team is ranked third internationally and it is entirely possible the two teams may face off in a Gold Medal match. She may have an opportunity to hit a game winning shot for the Russians and against her own home country. If my dream, was like hers, to play in the Olympics, and I was one of the top players in my country yet was for some reason not invited I'm not so sure I wouldn't do the same thing if the situation presented itself as it has in her case. Talk about a crazy situation. Though I will ask as a proxy of a friend of mine: does anyone even watch or care about women's basketball? glc

ESPN has created a flash game called Torch Run, in which you have to move the torch to avoid protesters. It's both hilarious and addictive! [via deadspin] jmj

With the resurgence of honey, Nicholas Day of Slate asks, "Is mead poised for a comeback?" I had mead for the first time this past winter, and it so sweet that I can only take it in small doses. My mother, on the other hand, hates beer and enjoyed it immensely. jmj
