Awesome Throw

| Comments (0)

Whether you're a NCAA Wrestling fan or not, you have to admit, this is pretty awesome. Ohio State's Reece Humphrey was called for a slam (which is a penalty point for the opponent), but it was a terrible call. According to the rulebook, a slam occurs when either wrestler lifts his or her opponent off the mat and returns him/her with unnecessary force. Clearly, that did not happen here. Personally, I think the official bugged out when he saw the throw and just assumed the worst was going to happen, which is unacceptable at this level of competition. With that being said, it's pretty rare that a throw of this caliber happens outside of international competition, via either Freestyle or Greco-Roman wrestling, which reward risk-taking and action rather than control.
