I'm Going Bald

| | Comments (0)

I've always had thin hair, but it's come to my attention that I am now actually starting to go bald. I must be getting old.

My first indication of aging came about two weeks ago, just after getting my haircut. While I was getting ready to go out to dinner, I noticed a gray hair. "Hmm..." I thought. "I don't remember that being there." I then turned my head ever so slightly to the right and leaned in to get a closer look at the left side of my noggin. Staring at me was about 25 gray hairs, clear as day. Not only could I not believe that I was going gray, I couldn't believe that I never noticed it before.

Yesterday was even worse. I'm currently in Palo Alto, CA on a wrestling trip. One of my athletes asked me to watch film of one of his most recent matches. Of course, I obliged. The camera was situated behind the bench, and the student running the camera zoomed out in between periods. That is when I noticed a man wearing a suit with a slight bald spot in the back on his head. Just as I was in the middle of blurting out, "Hey, who's the bald guy?", it hit me like a ton of bricks (it was more like a kick in the balls, actually). Holy shit, that's me.

Ouch. Now, of course, I get the "Hey coach, do you need sunscreen for your head?" jokes. I'm not angry or going to use Rogaine or shave my head or anything, but it definitely does suck. Maybe I'll be one of those handsome, distinguished men with a balding, gray head of hair. Hopefully, I'll keep most of my hair until I'm 30.
