The epic that almost wasn't

| | Comments (0)

As you probably have heard already, Syracuse defeated Connecticut in the Big East Quarterfinals last night in a 6OT epic. Arguably the most amazing bucket of the night was one that didn't count. With 1.1 seconds left in regulation Syracuse threw a full court inbounds pass that was tipped by Connecticut directly to Eric Devendorf at the elbow of the three point line. Super slow motion (for my money the greatest advancement in sports home viewing in years) provided an amazingly precise breakdown of the release as the clock expired to show that the release came about a tenth of a second too late. ESPN covered the replay analysis perfectly for fans at home. The camera angles, the framing and the announcers contribution all combined perfectly to tell the story of a buzzer beater that wasn't.
