Shimmer and Shine

Update Saturday, May 9th, 1:37 pm Last night's performance was everything was everything that I thought it would be. Relentless 7 was indeed just that as they rocked the tiny Williamsburg Hall of Music in Brooklyn. I'm not sure what possessed Ben Harper to play small venues like this one, but I'm pretty glad he did.

Update: Friday, May 8th, 2:18 pm Ben Harper and Relentless 7 made another television appearance last night, this time on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Ben and his band performed Number with No Name, the lead track on the new record. Jimmy's blog called Relentless 7 "the loudest and most badass band we've had on the show yet." Judge for yourself.

Thursday, May 7, 2009, 4:28 pm If I could describe Ben Harper and Relentless 7's new record, White Lies for Dark Times, it's that it's Jimi Hendrix meets southern blues rock. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

What makes a great rock record for me, though, is how it translates to a live audience. I'm going to see Ben and his new band tomorrow night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, but got a taste last night.

I'm getting the feeling that it's going to be a pretty amazing show!

P.S. Letterman cracks me up..."lap steel guitar? Good for you."
