Joe is a man of simplicity... which in itself is a complex task. His desire to do things the old fashioned way is often hindered by modern technology. He often takes on many unnecessary tasks, pushing his mental and physical limits in order to put himself outside of his comfort zone. His quest to make things simpler, not easier, often results in more work. Thus, his life is filled with oxymorons.

Joe gets up unnecessarily early every weekday morning to grind coffee beans for breakfast to assure freshness and, as it's brewing, walks to the local coffee shop to buy a newspaper. He could just buy coffee there or have his newspaper delivered but that would squander the benefits of living in a small town.

Joe reads a Calvin and Hobbes strip daily in order to keep in touch with his childhood. Bill Watterson has not published a new strip since 1995, which causes Joe to search for one that he doesn't remember every morning.

Joe often carries more things than he can handle just to see how far he can carry them. This has resulted in many broken items.

Joe likes to play soft toss with expensive, fragile items. He finds it exciting.

Joe would rather own music on vinyl than CD or even digital; It makes him happier

Joe's favorite day is Sunday, in which he and his loved one go out to breakfast at a local dining establishment and walk around town.

Joe's favorite responsibility is going to the laundromat to do wash. He would rather do this than actually own a washer and dryer.

Joe loves to shovel snow and rake the leaves. He currently lives in an apartment, and owns both a snow shovel and a rake to do both. For free.

Joe finds washing dishes relaxing and rarely uses the dishwasher.

Joe loves baseball, a game that is so simple it boggles the mind into thinking it's complex.

Joe loves Bruce Springsteen for his ability to portray complex issues so easily to the common man. Because, at first glance, that's what Joe is: the common man. But it's not always that simple.
