What really is truth? The concept of truth is the foundation of many, if not all of our relationships. The relationships we have with individuals at home, at work, or online. The relationships we have with institutions such as our employer, our broker, our bank or car dealership, our local mechanics, or insurance and utility providers. The relationships we have with our local, state and federal government. They are all built on a foundation of truth. In some cases that ‘truth’ is present in the form of trust and honesty, supported by an interpersonal relationship developed over years as is the case of a spouse, loved one or close friends. In others that ‘truth’ takes the form of assumptions and dependency. Not so much developed as it is an essential component in the ground work of a relationship in order for that relationship to function from the onset, such as the trust you have with your bank, broker, or employer. But even those two rather different forms of truth, one developed and another intrinsic, are at once as honorable and secure as they are equally as fleeting.

A More Perfect Union

The dynamic between you and people of another color is one that, at times, is far too complex to understand. You know it’s there, but you were never sure exactly how to explain it. You’ve struggled to pinpoint the root of your feelings but somewhere under the surface you know they exist. They don’t necessarily make up who you are and in many ways these feelings are contrary to what you truly believe in your heart but they still affect how you function in the world. At times, when your feelings would boil to the surface, a momentary eruption of emotion, anger, hostility and frustration, you would be left feeling ashamed and confused.

What's the fuss, Gus?

For weeks both the Republicans and Democrats have been looking towards the March 4th Primaries in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island as a second Super Tuesday if you will. On the Republican side, the excitement was focused towards John McCain possibly clinching the nomination and on the Democratic side, the excitement surrounded whether Clinton could battle back against Obama with big victories in Ohio and Texas. Trouble is, I’m sitting here wondering, weren’t these foregone conclusions for the past three weeks or so? McCain has been the presumptive Republican nominee ever since Romney withdrew from the race, maybe even before then, and it wasn’t a matter of if Clinton would battle back in Ohio and Texas as much as how much ground she would recoup by the end of the night. Though that question may not be answered till early in the morning since Texas has an increasingly complicated process that involves a primary and a caucus wrapped up into one extremely long and laborious evening.
