E. A. Blair: August 2008 Archives

Today's post is both connected and disconnected. A collection of independent thoughts I have been thinking that coincidentally or perhaps not, seem to be interconnected and not so independent.

The idea of an assassination attempt on Senator Obama is a fear many of his supporters have held for a long time now. But as much as I personally thought it was a sincere possibility I'm not sure I ever truly grasped the reality of it until recent news out of Denver. It is that recent news concerning a plot to do just that in Denver during the Democratic National Convention that has brought those fears to a shocking reality. I have never in my adult years witnessed an assassination attempt let alone a successful one on my home soil of a presidential candidate or existing president. It is a sobering thought and it is an event I hope I never have to experience in my life time. It has left me wondering how a nation would overcome such an event, regardless of which party an individual would fall in line with.

The Olympics. How can you not get excited for the Olympics? I'm particularly a Winter Olympics fan more so then the Summer Olympics but I like Gummy Bears just a bit more then Sour Patch Kids too That doesn't mean I don't love Sour Patch Kids. Mmm... candy. Ok ok, I digress, back to business, The Olympics. I love the Olympics. I've even halted my ongoing TV ban since March and hooked up a pair of rabbit ears so I could enjoy the nightly NBC telecasts. Since that time, I've learned a few things.

What it means to be Alive

| | Comments (3)

If you were to ask someone who loves music to explain why they like certain types of music or certain bands over others you would inevitably get an answer that sounded confident and secure but most likely didn't really answer your question. They may cite, for example, that they prefer one singers voice over another or that they prefer the sound of guitar driven American Rock over Death Metal. Or that Jazz is what gets their foot tapping. But an answer in that vein really hasn't answered anything.

But before we get to anything further I should clarify as to who it is exactly I'm talking about when I say 'someone who loves music'. Most, if not all people, if questioned, will answer that they indeed do enjoy music of some variety. But I'm not talking about the general public. I'm talking about those who need music in their lives. Those who listen to music while driving to work in lieu of listening to those ridiculous morning talk radio shows. Those who can't walk to the corner market, local pharmacy, or even the neighborhood watering hole to meet with friends, without popping in their ear buds first. Essentially those who have taken the iPod revolution to its natural progression and carry tunes with them wherever they go.
