Sand volleyball? Really? All the while, eight NCAA wrestling teams have been eliminated in the past month.

It's pretty much assumed that The LA Lakers with Kobe Bryant will face off against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James in the NBA Finals. They are the two best teams in the league and have the two best players in the league (possibly two of the best ever) and it would be a matchup that most casual fans would be interested in seeing. It's not a guarantee to happen just yet but many believe it's just a matter of time.

Over in the NHL the dream, superstar matchup is actually happening, albeit in the second round of the playoffs, not the Finals. And this matchup has 3 players, not just 2. Washington and Alex Ovechkin currently hold a 1-0 lead over Pittsburgh and Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. The three of them just so happen to have the top three point totals in the NHL this year and it would most likely be the second straight year if it weren't for Crosby missing time last year with an injury. What is even more impressive is that Ovechkin, Malkin and Crosby are 23, 22 and 21 years old respectively and widely considered to be the players who will be relied on to carry the NHL over the next 10 years. To say that any or possibly all three could go down in history as one of the best of all time is not a stretch and their time in the NHL is really only just beginning. So if you are looking for some excellent hockey and curious to catch the future of the sport facing of in a 7 game series be sure to start watching before it's too late.

Drew Brees

From an episode of Sports Science, New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees, is amazingly accurate and highly consistent. Oh and that slight wobble that thrown footballs have, yea thats apparently necessary to keep passes on target. (via with leather [nsfw] and brahsome)

Lenny Dykstra

| | Comments (0)

I am only halfway through this massive article from ESPN.com detailing a seemingly endless string of lawsuits against Lenny Dykstra and his highly touted investment company The Players Club Operations, LLC. Business partners, employees, lawyers, friends and family even, have all brought suit against the former ballplayer.

There is alot going on in the world of 2 wheel pedal power lately.

First we have Theo Bos literally pulling down fellow rider and yellow jersey wearer Daryl Imprey in the closing kilometers of stage 8 (the final stage) of the Tour of Turkey. Video can be seen here.

Second we have one of the best cycling videos I've ever seen, as Danny MacAskill performs some of the most impressive street trials riding ever caught on tape. With more then one WOW moment. It starts off with something you would not believe possible until you see it and simply gets better. A second video with some more awesomeness can be seen here. A slow motion highlight video also exists which is as equally as jaw dropping. And if you are wondering how someone is able to do all of that, here he is training.

And finally, MacAskill's amazing control and balance reminded me of one of my favorite bike videos. Burd Phillips and his elegant 'dance' if you will. The routine itself lasts for 3:30, and he never touches the ground. Technically amazing!

Dikembe Mutombo

| | Comments (0)

Dikembe Mutombo has indicated, following an injury Tuesday night, that his career is over.

Who can ever forget him famously clutching the final rebound in game 5 as his 8th seeded Denver Nuggets came back from a two games to none defecit to defeat that 1994 season's best team the Seattle Supersonics in the first round of the playoffs. One of the NBA's most historic upsets.

Citi Field

| | Comments (0)

The NY Mets new stadium, Citi Field, is somewhat lacking in the Mets History department. Dwight "Doc" Gooden, one of the greatest pitchers in Mets history, at the encouragement of some fans, autographed a wall in the stadium's Ebbets Club. Writing "Doc Gooden 84 R.O.Y., 85 Cy Young, 86 W.S. Champs." You would think that such behavior might encourage the Mets to make the wall a memorial where many of the old time greats could sign and leave a piece of history. Umm, no. They consider it graffiti and are having the signature removed. Well played.

After considerable backlash the Mets have now decided to leave the signature on the wall, but are removing the wall and taking it to an, as of now, undisclosed location to make it more accessible to all fans (the Ebbets Club is a section of the stadium that not all fans can access). A much better outcome then blantantly removing the signature.

Thrilla in Manila

| | Comments (0)

The HBO documentary, Thrilla in Manilla, debuted Saturday to critical acclaim. While we all know the story of Muhammad Ali's victory of Smokin' Joe Frasier in their third and final epic battle, this documentary tells the story from Frasier's perspective, depicting a a tale of personal betrayal that was stoked by the racial politics of 1970s America. I highly recommend it.

The playoff beard

| | Comments (0)

I am not a big hockey fan. Okay, so, I haven't watched one game all season. But what I do love is a good playoff beard.

Ironically, all of the male employees at my school have begun growing "state test beards" for good luck during the state test, which is in three weeks.
